Sharp interface limit of the Fisher-KPP equation

چکیده
We investigate the singular limit, as ε → 0, of the Fisher equation ∂tu = ε∆u+ ε u(1− u) in the whole space. We consider initial data with compact support plus, possibly, perturbations very small as ‖x‖ → ∞. By proving both generation and motion of interface properties, we show that the sharp interface limit moves by a constant speed, which is the minimal speed of some related one-dimensional travelling waves. We obtain an estimate of the thickness of the transition layers. We also exhibit initial data “not so small” at infinity which do not allow the interface phenomena.

Sharp interface limit of the Fisher-KPP equation when initial data have slow exponential decay
We investigate the singular limit, as ε → 0, of the Fisher equation ∂tu = ε∆u+ ε u(1− u) in the whole space. We consider initial data with compact support plus perturbations with slow exponential decay. We prove that the sharp interface limit moves by a constant speed, which dramatically depends on the tails of the initial data. By performing a fine analysis of both the generation and motion of...
متن کاملConvergence to a propagating front in a degenerate Fisher-KPP equation with advection
We consider a Fisher-KPP equation with density-dependent diffusion and advection, arising from a chemotaxis-growth model. We study its behavior as a small parameter, related to the thickness of a diffuse interface, tends to zero. We analyze, for small times, the emergence of transition layers induced by a balance between reaction and drift effects. Then we investigate the propagation of the lay...

with a smooth function μ(x) that is 1-periodic in all variables xj, j = 1, . . . , n. This equation is known as the Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrovskii-Piskunov, or Fisher-KPP equation, and was introduced in 1937 by Fisher, and KPP, in their two respective papers, Fisher’s paper focusing on numerical and “applied tools” analysis, and KPP giving a rigorous mathematical treatment. Both papers were pione...
متن کاملAn asymptotic preserving scheme for front propagation in a kinetic reaction-transport equation
In this work, we propose an asymptotic preserving scheme for a non-linear kinetic reactiontransport equation, in the regime of sharp interface. With a non-linear reaction term of KPP-type, a phenomenon of front propagation has been proved in [9]. This behavior can be highlighted by considering a suitable hyperbolic limit of the kinetic equation, using a Hopf-Cole transform. It has been proved i...
متن کاملNumerical Computation of an Evans Function in the Fisher/kpp Equation
We demonstrate a geometrically inspired technique for computing an Evans function for the linearised operator about a travelling wave in the Fisher/KPP equation. We produce an Evans function which is computable through several orders of magnitude in the spectral parameter and show how such a function can naturally be extended into the continuous spectrum. We conclude with a new proof of stabili...
